Applewood Plumbing Heating & Electric will host the largest Nexstar Network Peer Group for more than 50 home service business owners across the country to help maintain and grow their business during an economic recession. The Peer Group Meeting will be held July 21-23 at Applewood’s headquarters in Denver, Colo.
Many businesses have lost money or not met profit expectations, but Applewood is defying recession trends. They anticipate a 7.67 percent increase in earnings over last year and have hired 11 additional employees, increasing the company’s size to nearly 80.
“The key to a successful company is simple. We take care of our customers and we take care of our employees,” President John Ward said. “Applewood believes in always doing our best work and employees should live as well as our customers. When both these beliefs are met, you have success.”
Applewood will host experts from 31 companies in plumbing, HVAC and electrical work. Ward will share business philosophies and financial practices to encourage improvement across the industry. “I believe mentoring other business leaders is a valuable opportunity to help others grow their business skills and for me to grow my own,” Ward said.
“This is a special opportunity to see first hand a real operation. It’s like looking into someone’s sock drawer,” Greg Niemi, president of the Nexstar Network said. “This meeting was filled in under a week, that’s how high profile John Ward is. Hearing from a successful business is good, training with them is better, but it’s best to see them in action,” he said.
The Nexstar Network is a national business-development organization which connects members to offer support, networking and mentoring during challenging business times. The Peer Group Meeting raises the standard of business and is designed for business owners to exchange best practices, business strategies and financial strategies.
Nexstar Network members as a whole outperform other businesses in the industry, according to Niemi. Applewood has proven this to be true by consistently posting growth and profitability year-to-year.
Applewood was the 2009 winner of the Better Business Bureau’s Torch Award for Marketplace Trust in the Large Business category. They have achieved the Nexstar Network Select Service Designation seven years in a row and were named 2007 City of Golden Rotary Ethics in Business Award winner.
